Why do people sacrifice?

Why do people sacrifice?. First let me tell you what is sacrifice mean.When I was surfing the computer I research about the sacrifice, then I thick about my blog so I just thought that if I just could tell them about it. So I did there is no harm in telling about it.
In the wikipedia the word (sacrifice in Middle Eglish is "to make sacred", from Old French, from Latin sacrificium: sacer; sacred; sacred+facere; to make) is commonly know as the ractice of offering food,or the lives of animal or people tio the gods, as an act of propitiation or worship. The term is also used metaphorically to describe selfless good deeds for others, or short term loss in return for greater gain (such as in a game of chess).
In my discription sacrifice is where you do thing to a person or to other people to make a better world. When you gain your respect to others and so they would care for you. When you do sacrifice it is because that you love them and you care for them. When you do it also, you want that erson to have a good education. I will give you an example; like when your working so hard for your children just to give them a good education. When Jesus was crusifide in the croos is also one of an example of a sacrifice.
